: My son was diagnosed december 2003 with significant bone loss. Since then he has experience almost complete collapse of the head. We will be scheduling his surgery for June. Has anybody else seen a good prognosis with 80% loss? His surgery is for containment, he shows definate problems with it.
: He does have good range of motion and his bone age is much younger than 9, more like 6 or 7 years.
: His x-rays also show some loss in the femur itself, obvious translucency. The surgeon tells me this is a problem but won't tell me how much of one.
: Any comments?
My 8 year old son had containment surgery nearly a year ago. His femoral bone had completely collaspe and he also began showing signs of fractures in his femur bone as well. Good news though - the containment surgery was a huge success!!! Don't get me wrong; it'll be rough during the post-op period and physical therapy, but it's made a significant improvement in my son and we made it through just fine.
His surgery was in June of 2003 and had physical therapy 3 days a week til January of 2004. Today he has full release for PE class in school and plays, runs, rides his bike, etc all with no pain. The only thing he is limited to until complete recovery is full force jumping (like on a trampoline).
