Has anyone had success in using a chiropractor for children w/ Perthes?
: I am 16 and was diagnosed with Perthes when I was 10, and was on crutches for four years. i have been going to a certain chiropractor for about 6 months now, and it has really helped my movement, running, and pain releif. I am very very active right now. I love sports and right now i play basketball and run cross country and used to be in pain, but i have made a much better recovery since going to the chiropractor. i think it will continue to help me reach my goals in sports, and lead to a healthy life in the future. I would recommend giving the chiropractor a try.
My son was diagnosed last december at 8 1/2. he was going to the chiropractor for his leg and back pain prior to diagnoses. He still has good range of motion, enough that when the specialist examined him and saw the state of his hip she was impressed. The chiropractor MUST know that the child has perthes! If possible, share x-rays with him/her and discuss therapy and streching exercises. My son will need surgery for containment but will continue to go to the chiropractor for back stress due to unusual activity associated with using a walker.
