Hi Stacie

It was good that you got your little boy checked out early. Perthes is not recognised as being hereditary but sometimes we do see there may be a 'hereditary trait' ( like an uncle or nephew in the same family may have had perthes)

Children so young can sometimes have an irritable hip. I think it's essential you do take your son back if he is still limping or if he starts saying his knee hurts or that his knee is 'hot'.
I have know little 2yrs olds sit on the bottom of the stairs blowing on their knee saying "mummy my knee, ...its hot!"... this is referred pain and again should mention it to the doctor.

Your son may NOT develop perthes but in the next few weeks it may be a good idea to distract him from jumping around.

If he starts saying his leg hurts when he is walking again take him back and get him checked out.

Diagnosis is done by X-rays and he may need a few before it shows up on the x-rays if it's in the very early stages...

IF he is diagnosed as having Perthes feel free to email me and i can offer some support. I am a perthes mum too!

Kind regards
Sheila

: My boyfriend has leg pereth and we now have a two year old boy. He has a limp when he walks. He loves to jump off of things, he runs etc. We brought him yesterday to the doctors and he checked him did the rotating of the hips etc, he said he didn't see anything wrong but if he was still limping in a couple of weeks then bring him back and we would do an x-ray. Is this inherited? What causes this to happen? If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate them. I am very scared. I would like to know different things to do or different ways to help him. Is jumping a cause?
