I'll be 40 in a couple months and I discontinued my running of 2-3 miles a day about 5 years ago. I too believe that keeping your muscles in shape will make a huge difference, after my LP (5-9) I swam a great deal as well as became an avid runner in jr. high school and after. When I reached about 35 I could tell that when I ran it was getting tougher on my hips, consulted my doctor and now I walk ver. run. I continued to compete in race walking for about 3 years after running, something I don't do anymore either as it's simply too much. At my age, nice relaxing walks do me the good I need, and I have to be careful not to over do it... something that's not very easy for me but if I want to keep my hip w/o having it replaced (at least too early) it's just something I know I have to do.
