This is a difficult question to answer. From the little that I've read, it seems that many people start experiencing some pain in the affected hip about the age of 30. I have been unable to locate any reports on the long-term effects of this disease other than at 30 some people start having pain and that they may eventually need a hip replacement. 20 seems awful young to have pain re-surfacing, but this could be a result of the original severity, the treatment method, or the expertise of the doctor. Finally, even though this disease has been around for a while, the doctors really don't know much about it.

: My son was 8 when he was diagnosed, he is now 20 and he is having pain again. He is scared, I am scared. We went to the Dr. yesterday and they took xrays. We wont be seeing his otho until July 30th. Does the pain just come and go, or could there be more happening? If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I really hate this waiting, so if its normal i would love to know that too.

: Thank you,
: Krista
